Today was pretty good.
I slept in a bit. ^_^
Today is Mom and Dad's anniversary, so they went to eat at a nicer restaurant and dropped me off at Qdoba. XD I had 3 small tacos there. Afterwards, I went to Barnes and Noble and found a Dinosaur King manga. ^_^ After a while, Mom came and picked me up. XD
I found this quote today, and it amused me: "Even worse for game writers, the 98% garbage part of a game isn’t even usually garbage because instead of reading something boring about the history of Belgium, the “reader” probably gets to jump a Camaro over a dinosaur." - Erik Wolpaw - http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2007/10/31/rps-interview-valves-erik-wolpaw/
Oh! If anyone wants to hang out in Digimon Battle sometime, I'm on the Mihira Server, my character is Takato with the name of Akane and my current Digimon is a Gigimon (baby Guilmon) with the name of Ichigo. ^_^
I want to bring Kyouka to Inner World, but I'm going to wait until after the current battle with Aizen so I can figure out what in the world is going on. XD
As has become standard these days, I've got some ramblings on Portaly things for my fanfic. XD It's a little different today though, I'm going to focus on deadly neurotoxins. XD
I stole the copyright advisory from the one I made for Portalfordt's RP account:
Yylfordt Granz, Szayel Aporro Granz, Nelliel Tu Oderschvank, Dondochakka Bilstin, Pesche Guatiche, Bawabawa, and Bleach are owned by Tite Kubo, Weekly Shōnen Jump, and Studio Pierrot. Chell, GLaDOS, the Rat Man, the Companion Cube, Aperture Science Laboratories, and Portal are owned by Valve Corporation. I do not own the characters or the media they are from.
Not sure if I need to add anything to this.
Slowly reading bits of the manga, I finished up Yylfordt's pages. Sadly, there isn't really much about him, about all I got out of it was that he had an ego, cussed a lot, and was violent. XD Also, he might be smarter than he seems, based on the first thing he really said. There's not much to work with there, so I'll probably be leaping into the dark with my fanfic. Maybe the anime will help a little bit, it's been a while since I've seen his episodes.
I'm working on Szayel's pages next, thanks to
zaerapolo for creating a list of all the chapters. ^_^

I definitely need to heavily play with the third person mode to get heights of things correct, not only items but walls. I had no idea the button to stand on was so huge. Probably 4 people could stand on it fairly comfortably, maybe 5. XD I'm already going to screenshot basic things for reference, so I'll throw in the third person ones as well. I need to remember to get the heights on the energy pellets, how high they pass by on Yylfordt. The one for the part with the two buttons in the Companion Cube level passes by at about shoulder level.
Going along with screenshots, since I may use the idea from the anime with Szayel watching past battles on a screen, I'm considering making a few screenshots of that part for reference.
In the game, all the testing areas are accessed by elevator. I'm thinking about making all the testing chambers one long hallway. Las Noches has the space for that. XD Only problem with that is the elevator shafts in the behind the scenes area, there's only one or two, so I can either throw one elevator in or find a way around it. Alternative to elevator - sliding doors.
I did quite a bit of research on Neurotoxins and the like on Wikipedia. I realized that with the final battle, the deadly neurotoxin would have had to have some kind of small effect on Chell, the amount of it pouring in would have had to started effecting her before death.
I tried to post links and a few thoughts on them, but there was some kind of error. I mostly was looking up symptoms of neurotoxin poisoning. I found a list of toxic gasses and that was highly useful.
The three most likely real-world deadly neurotoxins are carbon monoxide, chlorine gas, and hydrogen cyanide.
Chlorine gas is the most likely suspect, as it is a light-green colored gas, it goes to the bottom of a room, affects the respiratory system, and is deadly. The deadly neurotoxin in the game is a green gas that flows downward in the room, GLaDOS makes the statement: "Neurotoxin... *cough* So deadly... *coughs* Choking... Hahahaha... I'm kidding. When I said 'Deadly Neurotoxin', the 'Deadly' was in massive "sarcasm quotes". I could take a bath in this stuff, put it on cereal, rub it right into my eyes. Honestly, it's not deadly at all. To me... You on the other hand are going to find the deadliness a lot less funny." (from the Game Script at GameFAQs, done by Ayelis). GLaDOS' fake coughing matches up with Chlorine gas causing respiratory issues. Large amounts of chlorine gas are deadly, and the deadly neurotoxin in the game kills Chell within a little over 5 minutes, when it does, the room is filled with the green gas.
However, there is one problem with Chlorine gas as the deadly neurotoxin, and that is that it can be flammable. The rockets from the turret could cause an issue.
http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/GLaDOS - GLaDOS was originally created as a Fuel System Icing Inhibitor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_System_Icing_Inhibitor - Fuel System Icing Inhibitors don't use chlorine, but GLaDOS could have easily obtained the Chlorine another way.
http://www.laddarboretum.org/resources_salt.htm - Chlorine is in salt, and salt is used in deicers.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0NSX/is_9_49/ai_n6200041/ - Chloride is in deicers, it's made from chlorine
So there is a connection between removing ice and Chlorine, even if it's not in real-world Fuel System Icing Inhibitor, maybe a new one could have been invented by the Aperture scientists.
Chlorine is also found in a lot of cleaning things, like Bleach, so GLaDOS could have gotten Chlorine from whatever is used to clean the Laboratories, especially things like the blood stains that come from someone getting shot by a turret.
I don't know if Chlorine gas is the deadly neurotoxin, but it fits a lot more than most of the other ones I read about. GLaDOS could have even created some new kind of deadly neurotoxin using whatever things that are in the place.
As for the title of the story, I've had one idea so far. I wanted a shout-out to Portal in the title. The company is called Aperture Laboratories. I saw someone once say an aperture was a hole to let light in, and according to dictionary.com, an aperture is "an opening, as a hole, slit, crack, gap, etc." So, I'm thinking that the title could possibly be "Looking Into the Aperture." This is just a working title for now, I'm still thinking it over.
